Dubai's prestigious Marco Polo Hotel to set new world record

MARCO POLO HOTEL EYES NEW WORLD RECORD

Dubai's Marco Polo Hotel is preparing to make a new world record for longest wooden chopsticks. China's Shenyang province currently holds the world record.

Sunil Marya, vice president and general manager, said that the record bid will be held during the Dubai Shopping Festival. Marya said they are eager to create a new world record, after the Indian restaurant; The Bombay’s participation in last year’s Largest Food Buffet.

"The encouragement we are getting from people is fantastic. We are coming up with chopsticks that will surely beat China's record," he said.

Currently, the record holder from china is measuring 20ftx7.83in; now the Marco Polo Hotel aims to hit it by creating 22ft longer than the latter.

Last year, the hotel made a new world record along with four other hotels by serving the world's longest food buffet at the Zabeel Park. More than 150 staff from the five hotels chosen by the DSF committee served 515 dishes at the buffet. The world record was previously held by Las Vegas Hilton, which served a 510-item buffet in celebration of Alka Seltzer’s 75th anniversary.

Food fest

Marco Polo Hotel's three signature restaurants will also join the DSF Food Festival at Uptown Mirdiff from January 25 to February 3. Food lovers will get sample dishes from the Chinese restaurant Chopstix authentic Indian fine dining restaurant The Bombay. Chikka Grill Café and Restaurant will also join in the fray, becoming the sole Filipino food outlet to take part in the DSF food event.
