Gamers dress as heroes for record

Hundreds of video game fans have dressed as characters from their favourite games to break a world record which was just days old!

A total of 342 gamers dressed as icons from games such as Final Fantasy, Zelda and Solid Snake in east London, UK, as part of the London Games Festival.

They narrowly broke a record of 337 set last week in Germany so you have to feel sorry for those folks. How soul destroying is it to hang onto a new world record for just a few days!

The record was verified by Guinness World Records at the Excel Centre in Docklands on Saturday.

A further 50 fans in fancy dress could not take part as rules stated that characters who were primarily famous from movies were disqualified.

The festival continues with events throughout London until 2 November, including game demonstrations and advice on working in the industry.

Beer Barrel Belly Bruiser

Probably one of the most questionable world record attempts from a health point of view has to be this one!

They say a chef has to be in love with food to be a world class chef and Brad Sciullo demonstrated his passion for food in a recent successful world record attempt!

Brad was the first person to eat the 15lb Beer Barrel Belly Bruiser at Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. It only took Brad about 4 and a half hours to eat the 15 pounds of ground meat and 5 lbs of toppings, which include bun, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, mild banana peppers and a cup each of mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and relish.

The total weight of this thing was over 20 pounds!

The hard part proved to be the bun. When asked why he decided to attempt to eat this thing his answer was profound and meaningful - I wanted to see if I could. We have heard that one before, perhaps that is a key motivator for world record attempts!

Bao Xishun to become the world’s tallest father

Not content with reclaiming the Guinness World Record for being the world’s tallest living man, 7 foot 9 inch Chinese herdsman Bao Xishun is now set to become the world’s tallest father after revealing that his wife Xia Shujuan, who measures just 5 feet 5 inches, is pregnant with their first child.

Bao and Xia got married in June 2007 at a traditional ceremony in their native Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in China. The couple found love after Bao placed advertisements all over the world. Despite the breadth of his search, he eventually settled on Xia, who hails from his own home town of Chifeng.

It is unlikely that Bao’s first born will inherit his father’s record-breaking height. Unlike fellow giants Leonid Stadnyk and Yao Defen, Bao’s height is not a result of suffering from a growth disorder.

And even if it was, it would be extremely unlikely that the disease could be inherited. In addition, no-one else in his family is excessively tall.
